The Alibi Room, Downtown, Seattle

February 11, 2012. Fremont Brewing Company, Abominable Winter Ale.

Didn't realize this was also a winter ale until I looked it up. Probably the first time I've ever unintentionally had two beers with the same name from different breweries. Looked and tasted dark in the bar, I would have believed it was a porter. Delicious.

La Paz, U District, Seattle

February 12, 2012. Hopworks Urban Brewery, Abominable Winter Ale.

The first of two Abominable winter ales on the evening. Hoppier than I was expecting from a winter ale, but good.

Sam's, Impasse Saint-Eustache, Paris

November 20ish, 2011. La Brasserie du Pays Flamand, La Bracine Noël.

Like most of the French beers I've had, this one tasted pretty unique. It reminded me of cranberries and tasted very open, much like the 't Gaverhopke a few posts down, which is what prompted me to dig it up.

Stumbling Monk, Capitol Hill, Seattle

February 10, 2012. De Dolle Brouwers, De Dolle Teve Tripel, 10º, Mad Bitch.

Great thick head, pretty bready. I enjoyed it. It apparently has great reviews.

February 10, 2012. Brouwerij 't Gaverhopke, Kerstbier (Winter).

Said "winter" on the bottle board. Kind of funky. Reminded me of La Bracine Noel, a French beer I had a few months ago. Also of a Sam Adams winter "lambic" from a few years ago. A bit of cranberries or tomato, some iron.

February 10, 2012. Brouwerij Verhaeghe, Duchess de Bourgogne.

One of my favorite sours. Three cheers to the guys at Stumbling Monk for letting me get behind the bar to take these pics. Tips well earned.

August 22, 2011. Harviestoun Brewery Ltd, Old Engine Oil Porter. Purchased in Edinburgh.

February 4-ish, 2012. Harviestoun Brewery Ltd, Old Engine Oil Black Ale. At La Paz, Seattle.

I'm fairly sure these are the same beer, so they're counting as one, but very confusingly named. It is called "Dark Beer" on the Harviestoun website. No clue what's going on there. Maybe an export thing? But then why is the website one Dark Beer? Who knows, but this might explain why the guy at the Mill Road Bacchanalia was so snooty when I called it a porter.
